New York Fashion Week – Look 1, Bloggers of Colour Mixer

New York Fashion Week – Look 1, Bloggers of Colour Mixer

Hey!!

So New York is in the throws of New York Fashion Week – Autumn/Winter’12.  There are models, designers, makeup artists, bloggers, photographers running all over the city!

So last Thursday, Mattie from Mattielogie hosted a mixer for fashion bloggers of colour.   I loved the idea of meeting other bloggers of colour especially in an industry like fashion.  Since fashion and beauty go hand in hand, I found myself at Pranna.   Pranna is a SouthEast Asian restaurant that is beautiful and huge!  I definitely need to return for full dinner.

Recent M.A.C. swatch: Vintage Grape Blush Ombre from Daphne Guinness

Recent M.A.C. swatch: Vintage Grape Blush Ombre from Daphne Guinness

So the Daphne Guinness collection from M.A.C. came out right after Christmas and there was only one item that I wanted from this limited edition collection –  the Vintage Grape Blush Ombre.  The Blush Ombres were first introduced about 2 years ago with the Spring Colour Forcast collection.  I missed out on this and all everyone spoke about were these blush ombres; how versatile, how amazing, how cute etc.   These things sold like hot bread and I showed up after de bakery closed!

So I promised myself to pick up Vintage Grape if it was ever repromoted.  And here it is!

My favourite products of 2011!!

My favourite products of 2011!!

The countdown to 2012 has begun!!!

I enjoyed digging into beauty this year.  I loved that we embraced colour, texture, prints or anything bold.  It was ok to colour block or to dress with some opulence.  I love that these trends will continue into 2012.  I’m over all-neutral looks.

So here’s what I loved in 2011 (in no particular order):

1) Becca Beach Tints

I love this product! I have it in Peach and it is probably the easiest blush to apply.  Super smooth texture and it just melts into the skin making to colour look like it came from within.  Works on all skin types.  A must have in all seasons!

More Best of 2011!

The Make Up For Ever Academy – NYC style!

The Make Up For Ever Academy – NYC style!

A few weeks ago, I attended the Open House for the new Make Up For Ever Academy that will officially open in the heart of Union Square in NYC in January 2012.  It’s located at 853 Broadway.  So on a rainy autumn evening, I trekked over to see what’s up.

The original academy is located in Paris, France and was founded by Dany Sanz, the brainchild behind MUFE.  So for this NYC location, Floriane David is the Director of Education and the curriculum is based off of the French academy.  Applications are now being accepted for future semesters. This makeup program is internationally renowned for providing intense, in-depth training to turn up-and-coming artists into multi-faceted, full-fledged artistes.  There are 3 modules that cover various topics in make up artistry:

  • Beauty & Fashion
  • Film & TV
  • Artistic & Stage

S/S’12 Trend Report: NARS at Marc Jacobs

S/S’12 Trend Report: NARS at Marc Jacobs

Mr. NARS himself,  Francois Nars created this look for Marc Jacobs for Spring/Summer 2012.

Francois Nars for Marc Jacobs, S/S'12

The Inspiration:

“Marc had a lot of images of Patsy Klein, Amy Winehouse, and Cowboy Kate, a book from the 60′s whose character Kate had heavy eyelashes,” said Founder and Creative Director François Nars. “The complexion is meant to look like it’s glowing, like the girls have been dancing, and by eliminating the blush it gives a strange, otherworldly effect. The focus was really on the eye, with a well-defined brow. The combination of different touches creates a decadent, French sensuality and makes the girls more like characters.”
