Swatched! Jin Soon Choi for M.A.C.

Cool Reserve (L) & For Fun (R)

Hi folks!!

So I was able to view the new M.A.C. nail collection on Saturday and I think this a great fall collection.  The colours are very creamy, mostly dark, vampy and you would need at least 2 coats for full coverage.  There was some streaking when applying the first coat but application was smooth on the second.  The colours are beautiful and I was really tempted to just get them all, but I only got 2 of them:  Cool Reserve and For Fun.

L to R: Rich, Dark Delicious, For Fun, Dry Martini, Cool Reserve. Thumb: Beyond Jealous

Cool Reserve is by far my favourite of the collection. I love it!!! It’s a cool, lavender, light plummy, grey, taupey colour. It reminds me a lot of OPI’s you don’t know Jacques from last fall’s France collection, but this colour is a little lighter and more lavender.  This is an amazing colour for manicures and is a good transition colour for the fall.

For Fun is a bright but deep red plum.  Another great colour. I think this colour would look AMAZING with a matte top coat!  I’ll need to try that! This would look amazing on a variety of skin tones especially if you are tanned, olive or dark.

I have not fully decided yet if I am going to get Dry Martini.  It’s a dark, mossy green colour, that is a lot darker than Rescue Beauty Lounge’s No More War, which is a lot lighter and has more yellow in it.  Great colour.

RBL's No More War

Rich, Dark Delicious is a beautiful, dark chocolate colour.  I am trying not to think about the fall, but this is a wonderful colour.

Beyond Jealous is a very dark, bluish teal and it reminds me of M.A.C.’s Plumage eyeshadow.

My least favourite colour was Dance All Night.  A burnt, red with a hint of orange.  It’s not that I did not like this colour, I just liked the others more.

Polishes are available now in stores and online for USD$12.00.  Get them now, ‘cuz they are selling out fast!!

  • Noire, you are so right! For Fun is a very versatile color and goes great with many complexions. My favorites are For Fun and Dry Martini.

Question - what's your take on polish for manis and pedis? Should they be in the same family of hues when they aren't the same color?

    • Hey JC!

For nails, I don't really believe in rules. Wear whatever you like! Typically I wear 2 different colours, the more fun, brighter colour on toes and something more subdued (but still fun) on the tips. I usually experiment on my toes. But.....if you are going somewhere and really dressed up or you need to be a little conservative, I'd wear something nude, neutral or subdued for the mani. Neutrals and nudes are like beiges, creamy whites/pinks and subdued are any darkened colours. On the toes I would wear the same colour family if there is colour on the tips but make it either matching or in the same colour family. If it does not matter, I would wear contrasting colours (like blue and orange) or one bright, one dark (like bronze and yellow). Hope that helps!!!!
      Thanks!
