So Trinidad & Tobago Carnival 2011 drops in less than one week and as ah true, true Trini, I’m now getting around to this!!!
Anyway, as usual the bands have provided lots of inspiration for makeup looks, plenty brilliant colours, lots of beading, feathers, sequins, skimpiness!. You have to admit that it’s amazing!!!
So I chose two costumes to create a look around.

Remember, this is the time to express yourself…be more bold. Accentuate your look with rhinestones, palettes, body paint, falsies, glitter, whatever you want. Also since you are going to be jumping up in the blazing sun and sweating, you want to use as much waterproof makeup as you can. Make Up For Ever makes an entire line of great products. Many other companies sell waterproof items, M.A.C., NYX etc. Just do a little research.
Note: My Trini folks, head over to The Falls at West Mall to the M.A.C. store and get some waterproof eyeliner, like the Technakohl eyeliner, the Paints, which can be used as a stay-put, crease-free base. They have a lot of options. A Wonderful World sells a lot of different drugstore brands that have waterproof items. Mascara, eyeliner and blush are musts in the waterproof formulas.
So here is the look that I came up with:
Carnival makeup!
An orange and blue look! Of course you could mix it up, omit the blue, use a different accent colour etc.
The Details
- UDPP – all over lid and brow bone
- NYX Jumbo pencil in Milk- light layer, applied with fingers all over the lid, to intensify colours
- OCC Loose Colour in Auric – a light yellow gold applied to the inner upper eyelid, in a patting motion, using M.A.C. 239 brush. Also applied to the inner lower lid.
- NARS Duo Eye Shadow in Mediteraneee – Burnt orange, shimmery side, applied with M.A.C. 227 brush all over middle and outer lid and blend into the crease. Extend the shadow past the outer corner of eye to create a winged effect.
- M.A.C. Matte2 eye shadow in Signed, Sealed – matte dark brown, applied to the outer and inner crease with M.A.C.’s 226 brush, to define the crease and to intensify the next colour
- M.A.C. Pigment in Museum Bronze – a shiny, shimmery bronze colour applied above the Mediteranee from the outer corner of eye to mid crease and blended with M.A.C.’s 224
- NARS Mediteranee – pale gold side – applied with 224, on the browbone and blended into the crease
- Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes pencil in 12L – Line the lower lashline from mid lid past the outer lid and extended along the winged out orange/bronze colours.
- M.A.C. eye shadow in Waternymph – a shimmery teal with gold pearl, laid over the Aqua Eyes pencil
- Givenchy Magic Kajal Eye Liner in #1 – Line the entire lower waterline
- M.A.C. Superslick Liquid Eye Liner in On the Hunt – Shiny patent black, line the upper lashline and winged out
- L’Oreal Volume Collagene mascara in Black – applied to upper and lower lashes
- Red Cherry lashes in #DEL (these are all I had at the time but I think thicker lashes like the Ardell Demi Wispies would be better here)
- BECCA Luminous Skin Colour Tinted Moisturizer SPF 25+ in Mink – Applied all over the face with M.A.C.’s 131 stippling brush
- BECCA Beach Tint in Peach – Peach cream blush applied with fingers
- Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Nectar – Pinky-peach baked powder used as a highlight above the cheekbone
- M.A.C. lipliner in Chestnut – line lips
- BECCA Glossy Lip Tint in Marsala – a shimmery red-bronze lip gloss
With lashes!
