Recap: The Makeup Show NYC 2019 – a look back at the best in show

The Makeup Show NYC 2019 is in the books! Again, bigger and better than ever. This experience continues to be enlightening, inspiring and educational. This year, more than every, the focus was placed on minority-founded brands, especially from women of colour and the LGBTQIA+ community. This is so important as the beauty space is crowded and often these groups don’t get the shine that they (we) deserve. This follows the trend of more and more brands coming launch to service traditionally underserved communities.

So, without further ado…..here’s a visual recap: The Makeup Show NYC 2019!!

My favourite photos from The Makeup Show NYC 2017

Hey!

Today’s post is picture heavy! This is my annual visual recap of The Makeup Show NYC. Once again, an amazing event, with a slightly different mix of brands this year. I was able to discover some ones and attend classes from some artists that I have never seen live before. I also got a sneak peek into some new products that are coming out soon and I will be bringing it here on the blog!

Special shoutout to all the people that I met, all the artists, owners and organisers of this event. I continue to be inspired by beauty and innovation!

“Whey de lime” Fridays: The Makeup Show NYC 2017 Preview

Ahhhhhhhh! Apart from Christmas, one of my favourite times of year is early May for The Makeup Show NYC.

the-makeup-show-nyc

I have written about it lots of times before. It is the largest makeup artist trade show in the US and many brands take the time to launch new products. But the thing that I am always most excited for are the educational classes. From learning about how to airbrush makeup to tackling social issues that are prevalent in the artistry industry. It is a great opportunity to learn from the absolute, very best artists, who have spent years honing their craft and ‘paying dues’.  There are over 75 brands being represented and some of my faves are Make Up For Ever, Temptu, Blackup Cosmetics.  It’s also a great place to check out smaller companies changing the beauty game such as Juvia’s Place, The Lip Bar, Danessa Myricks Beauty and Smith Cosmetics.

So that is pretty much the only thing that I am going to pay attention to this weekend. I need to plan out all the classes that I want to take…….and the brands that I *may* want to check out…

RECAP: The Makeup Show NYC 2016 in photos

Another year, another amazing event! The Makeup Show NYC just ended a few weeks ago and what an event it was! I love going to this! This pro-only trade show is an amazing opportunity to meet other professionals in the makeup artistry industry as well as many of the brands that have been supporting professional artists for years.  There are a number of things that I loved about this event this year:

Things I loved

  1. The amazing educational classes – this is a wealth of information and it was a great event to learn about the current and upcoming trends – not just what is popular on YouTube, but what artist are doing in editorial, bridal and SFX.
  2. The focus on skincare – Skin is in! Without an amazing canvas/base, you won’t have an amazing finished product! Makeup does not cover everything.
  3. New and exciting product innovation and launches – Folks out there are really doing some incredible things with makeup and tools! The next few months will be super exciting, especially when it comes to mascaras…so many to try from Ardency Inn, tarte, Senna, Charlotte Tilbury etc! Just wait to see what MUFE has coming this summer!
  4. Embracing smaller brands – this is cool…there were a number of small entrepreneurial companies featured at TMS, who are doing their own thing to shake up the industry, proving that you don’t have to be a global conglomerate to make a difference, which leads me to my last point…
  5. The acknowledgement of the need or the necessity of the industry to fully embrace diversity – It is 2016 and many makeup artists still don’t carry around a kit catering to global skin tones and many companies still find it difficult to create properly balanced foundations for people of colour. Thanks to James Vincent, director of Artistry, for leading an amazing panel.  Also thanks to the organizers of TMS for bringing on so many, lesser known brands founded by people of colour! I was especially excited seeing The Lip Bar.  More on them in a later post!

Anyway, here are some photos of the artistry, the colour and the beauty of makeup.  As usual, the body painting was phenomenal!  Let me know what you think! I will be talking, in future posts, about some of the new goodies that I discovered while there…..get hyped!
