Is time to fete!! A Carnival LOTD

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

Yes man! We in de thick of things for Carnival!! Just a couple of weeks away and there is plenty to do! This week alone, there was Panorama Semi-Finals at the Queen’s Park Savannah (Steelband competition), and the finals of the National Stick Fighting Competition (bois! allyuh ban’ yuh belly!), the National Junior Calypso Monarch Finals. And there’s plenty, plenty bacchanal to come, like Canbouley Riots Re-enactment at the Piccadilly Greens, National Extempo Finals, Soca Monarch Finals, Kiddies Carnival, King and Queen of the Bands, Dimanche Gras, J’ouvert (shout out to Dirty Dozen J’ouvert!) and of course de Parade of the Bands!

If you ever have the chance to visit Trinidad and Tobago during the Carnival season, you should go to at least one Carnival fete.  Nowadays, these are all-inclusive events that with your admission ticket, there is unlimited access to various cuisines, drinks fuh so and performances by many of the most popular calypso/soca artistes.  Is just ah massive party!   Food and music, what more could you ask for? In the last 2 weeks before Carnival, many of the big names hold their fetes including Army Fete, Brian Lara All-Inclusive, Neon Fete, Canyaval Anya The Fete (hosted by Project Runway’s Anya Ayoung-Chee), Insomnia, and Soca Brainwash Fete.  And chances are you will be going to multiple fetes in one night, or you will start your fetin’ before dawn!

I decided to create a relatively simple makeup look that will give you a bold effect that will take you from fete to fete to fete!

Here’s the look!

Carnival fete LOTD

A bright double winged liner!  This is look that you can have fun with and pick any colour that you like.  I chose a brilliant, intense blue colour, but this will work with purples, yellows, greens, oranges.  I also used a matte shade, but shimmers and metallics would be fine as well.  This look with get you noticed!  This can be achieved using eye pencils, cream liners, eye shadows, pigments, just use whatever you have and use your imagination! NYX Jumbo pencils are sold in Long Circular Mall and they come in a ton of colours.  And NARS has a stunning turquoise liner, Eye Paint in Solomon Islands.

Anyway, here are the details:

NYFW post: At 5:31 Jerome with Inglot Cosmetics

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

New York Fashion Week F/W 2014 is in full swing!  Lots of people hustling to and fro all over the city going to fashion shows and what not!

So, on Day 2, I had the opportunity to go backstage at the 5:31 Jérôme fashion show and the makeup was done by Inglot Cosmetics.  The show was hosted at Inglot’s massive showroom at Chelsea Market in the Meatpacking District.  Allyuh remember Jérôme?? He was the stylist and designer for Kimora Lee Simmons and Baby Phat.  I’m glad to see that he has continued to succeed!

The makeup and hair were beautiful!  The hair was big and teased, very much inspired by the 60s and bombshell Brigitte Bardot.  The makeup was very modern doll, and delicate.  Dewy, flawless skin, flushed cheeks with a bold golden brow.

Flawless! Makeup by Inglot

For the skin, they mixed Inglot’s Cream Concealer with Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream to create light coverage.  It gave a serious glow and made the skin look so fresh!   Pink cheeks were created using the Cream Blush in #80, which looks really light in the container but on the skin it gave a medium pink colour that was not ashy at all.  The brows were covered in a deep metallic gold Gel Eyeliner and set with the matching powder eye shadow.  The shape was lengthened and exaggerated.  Bronzer was used to set the makeup on the skin and finally on the lips, a deep red Cream Lipstick was applied lightly to the centre of the lips.

Check out some of the scenes! And props to the diverse runway!

My holy grail product: Oyin Handmade's Burnt Sugar Pomade!

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

I have sung the praises about products from Oyin Handmade.  They have a fantastic collection for women how have naturally kinky/curly/coily hair.  But there is one that truly has my heart and I will buy for the rest of time!  Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade.

Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade

First of all, this smells every bit as good as it looks! Amazing!! I have been so tempted to eat this thing!   I actually think that it has quite a pronounced scent although it has been described as subtle.

Anyway, this is an all-natural, vegetable-based hair pomade, that has a very thick, almost grease-like consistency.  Like old-school, back in the day hair grease.  And to the touch, it is grainy, as if there is actual brown sugar mixed in it.  But that quickly melts away once you warm it up in your palms.
