Are you ready to stock up on your natural hair care brands? Then you must visit Ecodermis and Wolfberry!

I really prefer to pick up my hair care products in a store. I only go online if I have to, because the wait makes me crazy! I love browsing the aisles, reading ingredient labels and generally getting lost in the plethora of products. I am so happy to see more and more stores carrying natural lines specially geared towards natural kinks, curls and coils. I have a special love and devotion to minority-owned natural hair care businesses, because back in the day, when I was transitioning, there were very, very few lines where I could buy a sulphate-free shampoo, or a silicone-free conditioner, and they were almost exclusively online. Mainstream companies hadn’t yet gotten the memo and although now they scrambling to get onboard.

Anyhow, have you heard of Ecodermis and Wolfberry?

Well, this store, located in Brooklyn, probably has the largest selection of natural hair care products in the Tri-State area, and northeast. Like, for real…Ecodermis, devoted specifically for natural hair care lines, currently carries over 30 brands and is constantly adding more lines. They carry products that no one else in the area does, like Darcy’s Botanicals. They also carry an expanded selection products and sizes that are not available at your local Target or beauty supply store, like the 16 oz. Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner. On my latest visit, they had just recently gotten in the CHI flatiron, the Koils By Nature line, Coco Curls lines, the brand new Oyin “No Ash At All” lotion, Hydratherma Naturals, Alikay Naturals and a ton more! Also, every couple of months, they host special events with different brands.

I picked up the Darcy’s Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla Styling Crème, and I can’t wait to try it! This has been on my list forever and I will be doing a review soon!

So check them out, you might find your new holy grail product or just feed into your product junkie-ism! And call them before you go there if you are looking for something specific, as they are quite popular and sell out quickly! Find them online, and on Facebook.

The end of summer signals the start of Global Fashion Week, beginning with the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week! And so far the weather has been really good, so there are no limits to what people can wear! I love people watching at this time of year!

Yesterday, I went backstage at the fashion designer Harbison’s show. The makeup was sponsored by AJ Crimson Beauty, Beauty Blender and the hair was by Federic Fekkai. Key makeup artist was Edward Cruz! The location was gorgeous! Milk Studios with the Hudson River, New Jersey and the Meatpacking District as the backdrop!

So two of AJ Crimson’s products were featured here, his Dual Skin Crème Foundation, which is a buildable, HD compliant, waterproof foundation and his brand new Banana Crème in the Pro Pan form.

Look at that colour range! Especially the deepest shade!

Think the famous Banana Powder without the starkness, dryness and settling, especially on deeper skintones. The product is very creamy and similar in texture with his Dual Skin Foundation.

I was pleased to see such a diverse array of skintones and AJ’s line worked quite well from the palest to the deepest.

Key makeup artist was Edward Cruz and he was kind enough to chat with me after he demoed the look. Talk about being so genuine and nice!

For the second night in a row, celebrities came out for the Primetime Emmys and we had a red carpet to ogle over! I kinda watched a little bit. I wanted Luther to win! You know that show on BBC America staring Idris Elba? Yeah….watch that! I also need to watch Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and OITNB on Netflix.

I didn’t even try to watch the VMAs. I don’t know have the performers and haven’t watched a music video since….well, since they were actually good and meant something. I only happen to flip on MTV when a Sam Smith featuring Mary J. Blige was on and I fell in love! He’s A-mazing!

But I did get a glimpse of some of the gorgeous dresses on the red carpet. I love the glided, mirrored, sequined theme that was going on this year!

Tanzania Dutch wax head wrap by Fanm Djanm

I have been loving this African headwrap! I bought it recently from a lovely Haitian woman Paola and she is the owner of the company Fanm Djanm. My particular piece is 100% Dutch wax fabric from Tanzania. The edges are finished and it’s a large rectangular piece. Honestly, I don’t remember how I tied it. And I love that it is so bright and colourful and I can keep my makeup at a minimum. Here I had a little black liner on my lower lashline. Mascara top and bottom lashes, a little matte chocolate brown eye shadow in the crease. On the skin, only facial oil. All about that glowy, summer skin!

just some facial oil, minimal eye makeup! Glowy skin!

By the way, Paola will be at the Sugar Hill Market in Harlem this Sunday, August 17. This market is held once a month, in various locations around Harlem and it features a host of talented artisans showing their handmade creations. There’s food, clothing, crockery. So check out their website for more information, Sugar Hill Market.

Also check out Paola’s page as well, Fanm Djanm.

What do you think? I need to find different ways to tie it. Any suggestions?
