What happened at The Makeup Show NYC 2018 + Pictures

Hey!

The Makeup Show NYC 2018 is in the books! TMS happened a few weeks ago and I wanted to do my annual roundup, where I give some of my thoughts. I was given the opportunity to attend both The Makeup Show and the Blogger Preview. There were a few changes in the format, the education offered and the brands involved but the entire event felt just as informative and exciting that it always does. I did notice that there were a few absent brands that are normally there and there were a few brands with booths that I did not expect to see there, such as Covergirl.

Anyway, TMS NYC was well organised and I felt as though they did a better job at crowd control.

The Makeup Show NYC 2018: What I learned/what I picked up

So, I did a little damage at the show and I picked up a few items, including the launch of the MUFE Artist Color pencils, which comes in 40 shades. The Inglot x Jennifer Lopez collection was also available. So was Mother, Pat McGrath!

In another first, there were two artists honoured, Danessa Myricks and Moshoodat. Allyuh already know how much like Danessa, but Moshoodat is new brand (to me!). I realized that I have been admiring a lot of work without know who she was! She did an amazing keynote and her makeup creation was fiyah!!

Check out some of the pics from the event!

Thanks to The Makeup Show organizers!

“Whey de lime” Fridays: Christmas is upon us!

wdlime_fridays_graphic Christmas

Can you believe it?  The holidays are here! It’s Christmas! C’est Noël!

This is my favourite time of year.  I simply love it.  The memories, the sights, the sounds, the food of Christmases past continue to stay with me.  For me it is not even about the getting of gifts, it’s the whole atmosphere, the feelings, the parang and the pastelles!

So that is what I am looking forward to this weekend.  Christmas.  I am home with my family in Trinidad and I am excited.

So best wishes from me to you.  Let me know what is your favourite dish for Christmas?

Mine is paimie.

This is a traditional dish similar to a pastel made with ground corn, coconut, raisins, cinnamon and other aromatic spices.  It is quite sweet. Here is the paimie recipe from The Naparima Cookbook

And by the way, if you are still looking for an idea for your Christmas day get-together makeup look, I created this easy, festive red lip here.

Festive, holiday look

“Whey de lime” Fridays – Midsummer edition

It’s the dog days of summer! It’s the middle of summer and there is so much happening! And it’s really hot! Just as I like it…so here are a few things that I am looking forward to this weekend in NYC.  And just a heads up…look out for my post of the Manus x Machina exhibit at The Met featuring some special nail art!

NYC African Food Festival

I have been waiting for this for MONTHS! A 2 day event in Brooklyn celebrating the beauty and diversity of cuisine from the African continent.  I am so ready to learn so much and eat even more.  Being from the Caribbean, our food is heavily influenced by West African cuisine.  There may be tickets available so check out the website here.

The Rio Summer Olympic Games

I am a big time sports lover! And not just during major events! If I am not blogging, I am watching sports.  So I will be watching the Games of the 31st Olympiad. Swimming is wrapping up and the Track & Field events will be starting this weekend.

What are you doing this weekend?

“Whey de lime” Fridays – TMS NYC & fútbol!

wdlime_fridays_graphic

Is Friday and we limin’! We are speeding through this year and we are in May already (well almost!). As soon as it starts getting kinda warm or mild here, things start jumping in the Big Apple! So for this week’s “Whey de lime” Fridays, I am going to mention a couple of events that I am excited for.

THE MAKEUP SHOW NYC

My annual must-go, pro-beauty event! I live for this! More I am loving and focusing on the education part of the show. I love finding out about the life stories of some of my favourite artists and what products they helped develop and the reasonings. I especially love listening to the powerful women that have helped shaped the industry and the artistry. Of course, many companies chose this event to launch their new products and this is where I get my first peek. For example, last year, Make Up For Ever debuted their new 4K/8K Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation that has ‘bossman’ status when it comes to makeup for film/TV or everyday. Especially for women of colour. This has been one of my favourites to use when filming (btw, have you signed up for my newsletter? You should). I have reviewed this product and I go into detail about why this blows me away.

And this year, Mick Ross is making a rare appearance at the show.

Mick_Rock_TMS

If you don’t know Mr. Mick Ross, then you definitely have see his work all over. He’s a photographer that has been hugely influencial in the pop/rock/music industry. He has worked with the best and has produced some of the most iconic photographs of all time and immortalised some of our most beloved artists. I will be in attendance!
