Summer is at our doorstep, so I’ve been paying a little closer attention to the skin on my body.  A few months ago, my sister and I went to Atlantic Antic, which is an annual street fair in downtown Brooklyn, highlighting some of the various talents and business that resides in the borough of Kings.  Stores on Atlantic Avenue opened their doors, there was food all around, clothing, art and I even saw Eddie “The Sheik” Kochak and his band perform!

We stopped by this booth with had beauty products in really attractive packaging! I was instantly drawn! Body scrubs and butters in mini mason jars and batik lids!

Otse Lab Cinnamon Clove Exfoliant – in mason jars!

Batik lids!! I think the lids have now changed to bearing the company name.

Very cute!  I spoke to the owner (Femme) who was really very nice and she explained that she was Nigerian and this formed the basis and the influence for her customized essential blends.

I picked up a small jar of the Cinnamon Clove exfoliant.

a seashell!

This smelled di-vine!!! LOVED this scent!! Very woodsy, spicy, warm and rich and reminded me of sweetbread.  It contains all natural products of pure West African shea butter, organic brown sugar, extra virgin olive oil, cinnamon, clove and geranium.  Since this is brown sugar based, the crystals are larger with a honey-like texture from the molasses.  I think it’s the clove scent that appeals to me.   I used this after I shower and it left my skin very soft and smooth, even through to the next day.  I added my own body balm afterwards for added moisture but you don’t have to.  The scent left me quite relaxed!  Note that this will leave your bathtub slippery.

I love this product, and if you are interested in finding out more, check out Otse’s Facebook page for more details.  I don’t remember how much I paid (maybe US$15???)

Overall grade: A

How are you prepping for summer??
