Allyuh know who Sam Fine is?? He is a legend and pioneer in the makeup industry and has worked on pretty much every woman of colour out there, from Iman, Nancy Wilson, Naomi Campbell and Ru Paul to Tyra Banks, Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah.  As a matter of fact, the very first makeup book that I bought was his, Fine Beauty.

When none of the mainstream prestige companies made makeup for women of colour, Fashion Fair was there.  It was the first brand many people bought, often through generations of women.

The global prestige cosmetics brand for women of color appoints celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine as its Creative Makeup Director.

In his new role as Creative Makeup Director, Fine, a 20 year makeup artist veteran, will apply his accumulated artistic acumen and fuse it with Fashion Fair’s brand DNA, to advise on the creation of new products, enrich its color palette and make in-store appearances.  In 2012, Fashion Fair will unveil Sam Fine for Fashion Fair trend collections, starting spring 2012.

IMATS, IMATS, IMATS NYC!!

That’s pretty much what I said when I heard that the International Makeup Artist Tradeshow (IMATS) was finally coming to NYC in 2011.  In L.A. and Toronto, it is usually a must-go event and I was excited! I love going to these shows for a number of reasons,

  1. I get shop a lot of different makeup brands, especially those that are usually online only, at a discount.
  2. I get to meet fellow bloggers and vloggers that I ‘stalk’ on a daily basis
  3. And…I get to take classes taught by some of my favourite celebrity makeup masters.

So I attended last Sunday, which ended up being a great idea as I heard that it was just chaos on Saturday.  I got to SoHo early so I was able to browse the booths with ease.  Even though the show was hosted on multiple levels, there were less vendors than I expected.  There were many of the most popular brands that were not there like M.A.C. and Make Up For Ever.  I think that the organizers played it conservatively and limited the number of attendees and vendors.

I had a short shopping list and as soon as I get there, I headed to those specific booths.  Here’s my mini haul!
