Backstage!! With Venexiana and Mehron at NYFW SS13

Hey!

I was so excited for this amazing opportunity! I was going to observe the madness behind the scenes!! So I hustled to Lincoln Center in the pouring rain to the Venexiana show, on Saturday Sept, 8th.

The makeup was being done by Mehron, which is a professional makeup line, known for their long-wear, theatrical, highly pigmented products.  They are particularly popular amongst professional dancers.  Did you know that Mehron was the brand featured and used in the movie “Black Swan” with Natalie Portman?  I have tried a few of their products and they are amazing and well priced!

Anyway, the show was keyed by the amazing body painter/makeup artist Dani Fonseca.  Venexiana is known for their rock and roll haute couture vibes, expensive fabrics with an edge and the makeup had to suit!  Typically, from what I have seen, makeup on the runway tends to be fairly simple, very neutral on the lid, occasionally a bright lip, but the idea is to not to compete with the clothes, but Kati Stern, the creator of Venexiana, wanted a bold, smoky eye with standout lashes!

Fashion’s Night Out is tonight!!

It’s also the launch of New York Fashion Week!  Needless to say that Manhattan is buzzing!

There is also FNO in other cities across the US and around the world.  Many beauty brands are bringing out limited edition or special edition items just for this night.

NARS Cosmetics has added two new products to their 413 BLKR collection, a Duo Eyeshadow and a Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.  Now available at the NARS Flagship Boutique NYC, online at narscosmetics.com and select retailers (Saks Fifth Avenue, Henri Bendel, Barneys NY, Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdale’s).

This is a brand that I am just discovering.  I have heard a lot of good things about Laura Mercier from the artists in the know.  I have a few product reviews from this brand coming soon, but in the meantime, check out what’s up for this summer!

Laura’s inspiration for 2012 draws from her background as a fine art painter and focuses on the mood and attitude of women through different art periods.  For Summer 2012, she invites you to escape to a dream world that explores creativity through colour, taking inspiration from Art Nouveau’s innovative spirit and painted posters. This poetic embrace of sugary happy tones in sheer textures sets the mood—soft but daring, playful yet romantic.
