My experiment with bentonite clay on my natural hair!

So I returned from an amazing trip to Turkey and I needed to give my hair a little TLC.  I decided to do a deep cleanse with bentonite clay.  What’s bentonite clay you ask??  I used Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay with contains 100% natural calcium bentonite clay, which I bought at Fairway in NYC for $6.95.  You can find this at other stores and all over online.

A bit on bentonite clay…

Calcium bentonite or green bentonite is a naturally occurring clay that is known for it’s highly absorbing and detoxification properties.  It can be used both internally and externally, but if you are going ingest bentonite clay, do copious amounts of research and proceed at your own risk!  Anyway, calcium bentonite absorbs many things, water, oil, sebum, dirt, toxins, metals, free radicals, bacteria and other kinds of impurities and it is quite popular in the haircare and skincare communities.  Many people with oily or acne-prone skin make facial masques as it quite effectively removes surface oil.  I got some of it on my forehead and my dry skin felt suuuuuuper tight, so I know it works!  I used it to cleanse and detoxify my hair, like a hair masque.  So here’s how I mixed it:

Natural Hair of the Day: The Stretched High Bun

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

I typically do a high bun when I have unravelled my two-strand twists.  This time this was done on freshly washed, stretched hair, with some conditioner left in, and it was semi-dry.

Looks totally different!  I like!  And ladies, high buns are very on-trend for the summer. You can mix it up by using a patterned scarf and some tangerine lips. I am wearing this style in Turkey right now!

What do you think? What other ways do you make  your high bun???

Tribe Called Curl & Karen's Body Beautiful Holiday meetup!

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

Just before jetting off for the Christmas holidays, I attended the holiday meetup/conversation/get-together hosted by Tribe Called Curl and Karen’s Body Beautiful.  Tribe Called Curl is an up-and-coming online community dedicated to natural hair.  Imani (the founder) and Karen (from KBB) started the discussion, provided advice and shared experiences on living with natural hair.  There was lots of information, camaraderie and bonding with other naturals!  Of course the product junkie in me had to do a little holiday shopping and picked up some Sweet Ambrosia!! Have you guys tried this?? I had a wonderful time at the event and even had dinner at a really good Egyptian restaurant, Black Iris.

Shout out to Dasheeda!!

So here are a few pics!  Did anyone attend??
