The year is going by really fast, and summer in the northern hemisphere is quickly fading.

September is already upon us and there are lots of things that are happening over the next few months. But…here are the events that are taking part in the next week or so that I am excited for.

Fashion Week here in New York started yesterday. I expect a little bit more buzz and lots of long-legged models running from one show to the other.

Pat McGrath Labs Permanent Launch

After years of testing and teasing her fans around the world, Pat McGrath or Mother, as she is affectionately known, will finally be launching a full, permanent makeup collection. No more limited release. She’s been playing with different formulas and packaging, trying to see what people liked and how the products performed. If you don’t know, Pat McGrath is one of the best makeup artists in the world. She has been a permanent fixture backstage at Fashion Week for years and she has be behind the scenes collaborating and advising many makeup brands and products. I am glad to see that she is finally getting the public adoration and appreciation that she deserves. And as a woman of colour with an MBE, this makes it even more amazing! On September 16, the first phase of her line will be released at Pat McGrath Labs and later released on October 3 at sephora.com and select Sephora stores.

I recently did an unboxing and swatch demo of her latest limited release of her MatteTrance lipsticks. I believe that this formula and packaging will be available in her permanent line. Check out the video and the swatches below.

THE INSPIRATION

“I was inspired by a young Hispanic girl in New York. She’s really confident and likes herself –  she doesn’t entertain all the makeup tricks “contour, foundation & powder” she goes straight for a strong lip. This is a sophisticated update on the heavily-lined lip from the 90’s. I played with the color and application on the lips, kept the rest of the face clean and bare, and brushed gloss through her brows to keep it young. It’s beauty with attitude.”

Hey!

Back and barely functioning after a world wind week at Trinidad & Tobago Carnival. This weekend is about rest and recovery, especially since it is brick here in NYC! Meanwhile, New York Fashion Week started yesterday and I am excited to see what the upcoming treads in beauty as well as any new products being previewed.  I hopefully will have some beauty looks that hit the runways this season.

Here is a list of all the fashions shows.

And you can even watch some of the shows live!

Let me know who’s collections you cannot wait to see!

"Whey de lime" Fridays: It's NYFW and a tribute to 9/11…

Hey everyone!

Once Labour Day hits and it’s September, summer quickly fades! 🙁

It also means that it is New York Fashion Week again! There are even more people on the streets, in taxis, eating out and the city is buzzing.  I hope to find out about any new makeup products being used backstage.

This is also the weekend for the Essence Street Style Block Party in DUMBO, Brooklyn.  I promised myself to go to as many events this summer and I think I did a pretty good job!  It’s one of the last events happening while the weather is still warm so I need to get my las’ lap in 🙂

Finally, I have to mention 9/11 on this day.  I was living in NYC at that time and I remember it quite vividly.  Thoughts and prayers to those lost……

What are you doing this weekend?

Laters,

The end of summer signals the start of Global Fashion Week, beginning with the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week! And so far the weather has been really good, so there are no limits to what people can wear! I love people watching at this time of year!

Yesterday, I went backstage at the fashion designer Harbison’s show. The makeup was sponsored by AJ Crimson Beauty, Beauty Blender and the hair was by Federic Fekkai. Key makeup artist was Edward Cruz! The location was gorgeous! Milk Studios with the Hudson River, New Jersey and the Meatpacking District as the backdrop!

So two of AJ Crimson’s products were featured here, his Dual Skin Crème Foundation, which is a buildable, HD compliant, waterproof foundation and his brand new Banana Crème in the Pro Pan form.

Look at that colour range! Especially the deepest shade!

Think the famous Banana Powder without the starkness, dryness and settling, especially on deeper skintones. The product is very creamy and similar in texture with his Dual Skin Foundation.

I was pleased to see such a diverse array of skintones and AJ’s line worked quite well from the palest to the deepest.

Key makeup artist was Edward Cruz and he was kind enough to chat with me after he demoed the look. Talk about being so genuine and nice!
