My beauty experience at an authentic Turkish Hamami – Çemberlitaş Hamami

So my visit to Istanbul would not be complete without a visit to a Turkish bath and after a day of sightseeing and shopping, 3 friends and I decided to visit the historical Çemberlitaş Hamami which is located just off of Divan Yolu (Divanyolu) Caddesi in Old Historic Istanbul.  It is nestled right in the middle of some the most historical sites in Istanbul.  The Vezirhan Monument (build by Constantinople I) is right across the street and the tombs of Sultan Mahmut II and Ali Baba are right nearby.

So the entrance is kinda non descript, look out for the steady treaffic going in and out.  By the way, this is a unisex bath, but I think that there are separate areas for men and women.  Once inside, we were presented with a list of services and I got the traditional style bath, which cost 69TL (Turkish Lira) (about US$35).  The traditional style bath consists of steam and a bubble bath.  So we paid and received our keys for the lockers and our peştamals.  What’s a peştamal? It’s a traditional cotton Turkish towel!  There is no pressure to go completely naked, you could wear a bathing suit during your service, or just panties or nothing at all.  Your choice!

We were led into the sıcaklık, which is the large main bathing area.  What a beautiful place! High vaulted ceilings made of what looks like terracotta with venting holes arranged in a pattern.

Hey!

It’s December already!! I love this month! We are knee deep into the holidays and everyone is going crazy shopping and prepping! And….it has gotten really cold here in NYC. L  And it gets dark by 4:30pm.  So this would be a great time to reminisce on warmer, brighter days.  Earlier this year, I took a trip with a few friends to Turkey.  It was incredible and amazing!! I luv’d it!  It’s the perfect mix of The Middle East and Europe.  The architecture, the food, the culture.  I’m definitely going to go back, soon!!!!  What happened to art in Italy during the Renaissance, it happened to architecture in Turkey during the Ottoman Empire.

So here are some of the gorgeous sights to Turkey.  I will be posting some other Turkey related beauty stuff , including a makeup look inspired by art!!

OOTD: Turkey edition!

Hey!  As I mentioned before, I spent almost 2 weeks visiting Turkey! The place? Amazing!!!! Absolutely loved it!! I have a few more posts related to that, but here is an outfit of the day that I wore in Cappadocia, which is in the Central Anatolian region of Turkey.

In Cappadocia!!

This shirt is from The Gap.  I picked it up because I loved the watercolour effect and it was a bright bluish green! I could not resist standing in front of the red door of our hotel.  Shout out to all the staff at the Hezen Cave Hotel!! Seriously the best place ever!  I definitely stood out against the rock formation backdrop of the region.  I paired it with some jeans from Old Navy (Sweetheart cut, Skinny) and leather slippers.  I kept the makeup simple, bronzey colours and black eyeliner and mascara.  See some of my travel essentials here and also check out these wedges that I wore partying in Bodrum!!

What have been your faves to wear in hot weather??

NOTD: Featuring NARS Kutki and some summer wedges!

This was the pedi colour for my trip to Turkey!

My pedicure!

A gorgeous, pale blue crème.  Almost like a very pale Tiffany blue! This is from NARS’ collaboration with designer Thakoon and the colour is Kutki.  I got a lot of compliments on this one, on both continents!  The formula is amazing! Super smooth, opaque and well-pigmented.  It’s great on tan-to-dark skin.  And since I think feet shots by themselves are weird, here are the super cute wedges that I wore! They are the Leroy Espadrilles from Sam Edelman.  The entire Thakoon for NARS collection is still available at the NARS website or at Sephora, but it’s limited edition.  I will have more swatches up soon!!!

What is your hot weather colour??

Natural Hair of the Day: The Stretched High Bun

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

I typically do a high bun when I have unravelled my two-strand twists.  This time this was done on freshly washed, stretched hair, with some conditioner left in, and it was semi-dry.

Looks totally different!  I like!  And ladies, high buns are very on-trend for the summer. You can mix it up by using a patterned scarf and some tangerine lips. I am wearing this style in Turkey right now!

What do you think? What other ways do you make  your high bun???

Laters!!!
