Battle of the Retro Mattes! M.A.C.’s Ruby Woo vs. RiRi Woo

So……I’m not a fan of Rihanna…at all, BUT when I heard that she agreed to a multi collection deal with M.A.C. that started with the creation of a customized shade of lipstick in the Retro Matte finish, ah went bazodee!

The Retro Matte finish is the SINGLE BEST FINISH FOR A LIPSTICK EVA!  Ruby Woo is my favourite lipstick and is my go-to with a high bun. So this shade is supposed to be what Rihanna wears on tour, a blue-based red, that’s universal on all skintones.  Last week, M.A.C. released it online and it sold out in 3 hours…..yup, I was one of those waiting on that virtual line! There is no special packaging  (I thought at least the box would have something on it), but engraved on the lipstick, was RiRi’s signature.

My favourite products of 2011!!

The countdown to 2012 has begun!!!

I enjoyed digging into beauty this year.  I loved that we embraced colour, texture, prints or anything bold.  It was ok to colour block or to dress with some opulence.  I love that these trends will continue into 2012.  I’m over all-neutral looks.

So here’s what I loved in 2011 (in no particular order):

1) Becca Beach Tints

I love this product! I have it in Peach and it is probably the easiest blush to apply.  Super smooth texture and it just melts into the skin making to colour look like it came from within.  Works on all skin types.  A must have in all seasons!

I am lovin' Moulin Rouge!!!!!

So I had the opportunity to purchase a few items from Sephora at the end of last year and decided to step out of my zone and start building my Make Up For Ever collection.  I also was doing kinda poorly on my red lips beauty resolution and wanted to check out the recently released Rouge Artist Intense lipsticks.

First of all, these are amazing lipsticks! Believe the hype! There are 50 colours, and 3 finishes – matte, satin and pearl.  Really wide array of colours to choose from.  These lipsticks are highly pigmented, long-wearing, and could provide full coverage in one swipe.

I made a beeline to the reds in the collection and tried a few of them and settled for #43 Moulin Rouge.  It’s a limited edition colour that is described by Sephora as “a vibrant red’.  It has a satin finish which is not matte but not high gloss either. Yes this is a bright, bold red but not too blue-toned or orange-toned, pretty neutral.  This is surprisingly, actually a really great red! A red for women of colour!  I think that this would work on a wide variety of skin tones, from pale, light, tan, olive to dark. Black, Latina, Middle Eastern, Indian and any other combination!
