The Best in Black Beauty you need to know – UOMA Beauty

This is a long overdue post. As far as I am concerned, UOMA Beauty was the Best in Black Beauty, the Best in Beauty for 2019. The interesting thing is, this black woman-owned beauty brand debuted in 2019. UOMA came out on absolute fire and I love it. I also want to point out how difficult it is to bring out an entire makeup line all at once. And we were hyped even before it launched! Massive respect to Sharon.

Anyway, if you can’t tell, I love this brand and what it stands for. UOMA means beautiful. UOMA stands for inclusion, and embracing beauty in all, bathing in vibrant colour and freedom of expression. And I especially love that the brand is unapologetically black. UOMA celebrates the gloriousness of the African diaspora. I have been buying some pieces over the past year and here are my thoughts

Uoma Beauty Say What Foundation

Probably the most talked about product in the entire collection.

51 shades
Foundation with skincare ingredients
6 different skintone group called skin kins
Each skin kin has its own unique formula catering to the needs to that category
Skin like, vibrant matte, blurring finish
Buildable to full coverage
Longwearing, weightless, hydrating

This product comes in a frosted glass bottle with a pump and I am in shade T1N Black Pearl, which is the darkest skin kin. There are shades darker that this one. Really great formula. Feels like nothing on the skin and even though it dries down to a matte finish, it does not suck the moisture out of my dry skin. And I love the skin-like finish.

Part of a limited edition collection honouring the festival of colour and of freedom, Carnival!

2 shades
Bronzing and highlighting
Creamy powder
Massive compact for face and body use
Delicious coconut scent (but not overwhelming, which I love!)

The packaging is gorgeous! Cardboard compact with a very large mirror that matches the very large pan of product! Seriously you get 18.5g of product. It will never done! And the artwork on the packaging. A carnival motif complete with gold foil. I got the shade Barbados. It’s the darker of the two shades. This is beautiful deep golden bronze. Suitable for all skin tones but great on medium-dark to dark skin. This highlighter is very smooth, and shimmery, not glittery. One thing to note, if you have textured skin (like acne scars, enlarged pores), this product may emphasize that texture. I would recommend using a light touch, fluffy, less dense brush and a primer that can smooth or fill-in the texture.

UOMA Beauty - Foundation and Highlighter — I’m wearing the foundation and the highlighter (along with Tracy) in this pic. The foundation is a *touch* too dark for me. Been inside due to COVID and have lost pigmentation. But lovely finish. I am also wearing the highlighter on my cheeks AND on my eyelids as an eyeshadow. This product can be bumped up for a super intense shine or as a wash of colour.

I think after the complexion products, I think these matte lipsticks are the second most spoken about product.

Best neon polishes for summer-Cirque Colors Vice 2020

The nail polish collection that I look forward to most of all every year. The Cirque Colors Vice 2020 Collection. An annual collection of shocking neon shades. Seriously, I say this every year, but Cirque makes the best neon polishes that I have tried. The colours are legit! When it is summer time or I am in the Caribbean, I love wearing super bright shades, they look amazing against dark skin!

Cirque Colors Vice 2020 Collection – What to know

Before I get to the swatches here are a few things to note:

Limited Edition

Vegan & Cruelty Free
Woman owned, small business
No need to wear a white base coat – colour stays vibrant and true
Neon shades dry down to a plastic finish – not matte but not shiny – I highly recommend using a shiny top coat
Shades are blacklight/UV reactive – they glow!!!

Collection is a mix of brand new and repromoted shades

I bought all of these polishes. For the most part, they all applied easily and smoothly, with full opacity in 2 coats. Cirque uses a standard nail polish brush (not the wide style).

Cirque Colors Vice 2020 Thirsty — Thirsty – brand new. A neon minty green creme. Surprisingly beautiful colour, bright and not pastel or chalky. Looks great on dark skin.

Cirque Colors Vice 2020 Euphoria — Euphoria – brand new. A gorgeous neon lilac creme. First shade that I knew that I had to get. I love purples and I love shades like this!

Cirque Colors Vice 2020 Superfreak — Superfreak – brand new. The brightest, neon orange. Literally, traffic cone orange. If you bought the previously released shade, Game Over, that is definitely more of a red-orange and Superfreak is an unmistakable orange.

Cirque Colors Vice 2020 Retail Therapy — Retail Therapy – repromote. They released this in 2018 and I bought it then. A bright neon fuschia pink. I am not crazy about pink polishes except if they are rich, and not bubble gummy.

Cirque Colors Vice 2020 Hedonist — Hedonist – repromote. Again released with the Vice 2018 collection, and I also bought it then. A true, true primary yellow neon shade. Reads a little on the cool side, and it looks brilliant against dark skin.

There are two other shades that I did not purchase. They didn’t really call to me, but let me know if you bought them. They are:
