Guess what has been giving me the best twistouts ever? (Hint: It’s from Oyin!)

As we all know, I keep my hair in two-strand twists about 80% of the time, out of sheer convenience.  A few days before my fortnightly washing, I unravel my twists and wear it up in a high bun or some kind of updo.  But considering the results of these next two products, I might have to incorporate more styles to show it off!

I heard the buzz about Oyin Handmade’s newest addition, boing!  I had not bought any new products in a quite a few months and knew that anything Oyin is worth a try! Seriously, they are one of the best, natural lines for hair out there!  This time I decided to try out the online store, Curlmart.  They were having a 20% off promo.  I was impressed with the turnaround, I placed my order on early Wednesday (about a month ago), chose the cheapest USPS shipping, and my merchandise was in my mailbox by the Friday! I ordered the 4 oz. boing! and the 4 oz. Burnt Sugar Pomade (BSP).

Sidenote: Uhm…..I cannot believe I have not given the Burnt Sugar Pomade its proper homage, a full review!  This is my stuck-on-a-deserted-island-must-have-product!

Anyway, boing! is described as an ‘all-in-one coil styler’.  It is supposed to define and moisturize all in one step.  Typically I use Whipped Pudding as a moisturizer and Shine & Define as a styler, then add BSP to seal and some extra hold.

Here’s what the product looks like….

Oyin Handmade boing!

boing!

It’s quite creamy and not too thick.   It is similar in texture to the Shine & Define.  It’s smooth and melted quickly into my hair.  So after washing and detangling, I ONLY added boing! to my wet/damp hair, then added the BSP on top. Two-strand twists all over.

This was the result!

My twists using boing! and Burnt Sugar Pomade

Look at the sheen!  And all I did for the following week and a half, I just sprayed my hair with Frank Juice and some extra virgin coconut oil from Trader Joe’s on my ends.

When it was time to unravel, I added some more coconut oil on my fingertips.  And this is what I got!!

My Chagrin Valley shampoo bars review!

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

NB: Nothing to declare! Product mentioned bought by me!

Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve products!

For the last few months, I have been testing out the two shampoo bars that I purchased from Chagrin Valley.  I have not had too much experience with Shampoo bars and previously I had only used the babassu bars from Anita Grant.  I have been a fan of liquid cleaners as they are more likely to lather (which by the way, assuming they don’t contain sulphates, assist in removing grease and dirt from the hair, but they are not absolutely necessary for cleansing).  Plus the fact, I am not a fan of soap melting away in the bathroom, but I decided to give them a try.  I purchased the Babassu Marsh Mallow and the Butter Bar Conditioner Shampoo Bars.  I got about 7oz. in each bar for about US$8.

See how large the bar is!!! Covers my entire hand!

Good value!  I cut off pieces of the bar as I needed it.

Babassu Marsh Mallow Shampoo Bar – 7oz.

Babassu Marsh Mallow Shampoo Bar –  The main ingredients are Babassu oil, which is great for thick hair and helps with restoring strength and elasticity,  and marsh mallow root, which a well-known botanical used for its detangling, softening and hydrating properties.  This bar had a citrusy, herbal scent that dissipated when rinsed.  I parted my hair into quarters and I was able to get a pretty decent lather from the bar.  It did not strip my hair of its moisture but neither was it super moisturizing.  My scalp looked/felt clean and it did not itch while I was washing it.   I also did not notice any significant ease in detangling.  This was a generally a good bar, not amazing, but I would repurchase.

FOTD: Inspired by Beyonce’s US Vogue March 2013 cover

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

We are accustomed to seeing Beyonce with big, wavy, blonde hair, so I was glad to see her looking really elegant, featuring monochromatic makeup and an updo!  The photos were shot by Patrick Demarchelier and were amazing!  This was my favourite look!

Yaaaaassss Bey!

So I decided to recreate the look.

via Vogue magazine

She is wearing a double winged liner, accented with white.  Her hair is a soft, slightly messy, high bun with swooped bangs.   I had a twistout but you can certainly still get a similar effect on natural hair!

Here’s the look!

FOTD: Scandal-inspired Kerry Washington EW cover look/Hiatus edition & Hair of the day

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

Hey! So, I am OBSESSED with Scandal.  I am OBSESSED with Scandal!!!  I don’t think that there has been a TV show that literally affects me physically, emotionally.  I live for this show.   I plan my week around Scandal.  And I love how they style OP!  It’s amazing to see a strong, amazing, brilliant, successful woman who dresses so well! I want EVERYTHING in that closet! I am still crushing on a few of those dresses and that white coat she always wears.  We can have both, intelligence and a great sense of style! Yes I am a gladiator! I’ve been a fan of Kerry Washington for a long time and I love that she’s getting what’s due to her.  KW will always be Olivia Pope to me! Tony Goldwyn will always be the playa Prez Fitzgerald Grant III! And for the record, I ship Olitz all day long! Olitz for life! So I pretty much died last week when Entertainment Weekly hit the newstands!  LOVED it! Loved it! I had to recreate the look on Kerry Washington.

But before that……

If you haven’t seen Episode 218, you might want to skip to the next section…

***SPOILER ALERT***

So uhm…how insane is this Jake/Olivia/Fitz storyline! What’s Jake’s real situation? Who’s the mole?  Who’s the random black dude?   And I’m going to need Shonda and dem to stop messing with Huck!! I’m over seeing him being so tortured! 🙁 And these 3 week hiatuses? I see you ABC….I see you…I don’t know how I’m going to survive the next episodes.  I am still exhausted from Episode 218.  I usually am physically and emotionally drained after each episodes and my poor TV is tired of being screamed at.  I hear they are going to be gut –wrenching! Lawd….I can’t wait to see Episode 220, the episode directed by Tony Goldwyn (YUM!)

***END OF SPOILER***

So back to the tutorial!

Hot right??!! I loved this super sultry bronzed smoky eye look.  And the full-on lashes made the look for me.  Perfected skin, nude shimmery lips, corally cheeks.  I did something that I don’t usually do, I added lower false lashes.

So on to the look!
