I have sung the praises about products from Oyin Handmade. They have a fantastic collection for women how have naturally kinky/curly/coily hair. But there is one that truly has my heart and I will buy for the rest of time! Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade.
Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade
First of all, this smells every bit as good as it looks! Amazing!! I have been so tempted to eat this thing! I actually think that it has quite a pronounced scent although it has been described as subtle.
Anyway, this is an all-natural, vegetable-based hair pomade, that has a very thick, almost grease-like consistency. Like old-school, back in the day hair grease. And to the touch, it is grainy, as if there is actual brown sugar mixed in it. But that quickly melts away once you warm it up in your palms.
As we all know, I keep my hair in two-strand twists about 80% of the time, out of sheer convenience. A few days before my fortnightly washing, I unravel my twists and wear it up in a high bun or some kind of updo. But considering the results of these next two products, I might have to incorporate more styles to show it off!
I heard the buzz about Oyin Handmade’s newest addition, boing! I had not bought any new products in a quite a few months and knew that anything Oyin is worth a try! Seriously, they are one of the best, natural lines for hair out there! This time I decided to try out the online store, Curlmart. They were having a 20% off promo. I was impressed with the turnaround, I placed my order on early Wednesday (about a month ago), chose the cheapest USPS shipping, and my merchandise was in my mailbox by the Friday! I ordered the 4 oz. boing! and the 4 oz. Burnt Sugar Pomade (BSP).
Sidenote: Uhm…..I cannot believe I have not given the Burnt Sugar Pomade its proper homage, a full review! This is my stuck-on-a-deserted-island-must-have-product!
Anyway, boing! is described as an ‘all-in-one coil styler’. It is supposed to define and moisturize all in one step. Typically I use Whipped Pudding as a moisturizer and Shine & Define as a styler, then add BSP to seal and some extra hold.
Here’s what the product looks like….
Oyin Handmade boing!
boing!
It’s quite creamy and not too thick. It is similar in texture to the Shine & Define. It’s smooth and melted quickly into my hair. So after washing and detangling, I ONLY added boing! to my wet/damp hair, then added the BSP on top. Two-strand twists all over.
This was the result!

Look at the sheen! And all I did for the following week and a half, I just sprayed my hair with Frank Juice and some extra virgin coconut oil from Trader Joe’s on my ends.
When it was time to unravel, I added some more coconut oil on my fingertips. And this is what I got!!
So I attended the launch of the NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection at the NARS boutique on Bleecker Street, and I was instantly drawn to the intense, saturated colours, especially for a holiday collection! This limited edition collection features a new/special texture that appears in this collection only called Cinematic. Actually it’s just they eye shadows and lipsticks, which allows them to be buttery smooth and highly pigmented at the same time. NARS has amazing quality products to begin with but this just kicked the level up a few more notches.
Anyway, I don’t have a lot (or any as a matter of fact) copper-toned eye shadows, so I picked up this gorgeous colour Cambodia.

Très riche!! A beautiful coppery, reddish brown colour! Actually this texture reminds me of the previously released MAC Starflash texture. Very finely milled, but pigmented and smooth.
So for this look, I decided to also combine my favourite eye shadow from the summer as well incorporating a little colour theory.
Here’s the look, that I previously posted on Instagram! Follow me here —-> NoireTropicalB
I truly believe that this texture works really well with richly pigmented colours, and not pastels. I love the bright colour mixed with the matte finish mixed with the crystal like glitter. They all accent each other. And since nail art continues to be very popular for the upcoming seasons, you can use these polishes as accents with your more vampy nail colours. For all the polishes, I applied 2 coats in these swatches and note that they are thicker in texture. For the best results, apply as thin of a layer as possible and let dry between layers. Also, when using these, since they are technically a matte nail polish, don’t use a base coat or top coat. I get about 2-3 days of chip –free manicure. The summer collection is still available at the Zoya website and they retail for US$9 each. This media sample was provided to me.
Liberty
Liberty – a deep ocean blue polish with dark blue and silver shimmer. Actually I could see myself wearing this more in the fall rather than then summer. Nice colour but a little deep for me for warm weather.
Of course yuh gyul found herself at Sephora on Friday, scoping out the new Marc Jacobs Beauty collection. He’s got pretty much a full colour line. Lots of beautiful shades. I check out the gel foundation….and I must admit that I am impressed! It comes in 16 shades and it actually has some deeper shades! I swatched the darkest shade, Cocoa Deep, which is a deep, chocolatey brown that is pretty neutral.

I have not bought this…yet…but I applied some on my jaw line and it was almost an exact match! For reference, I am NW45 in M.A.C. The formula is very lightweight, smooth and sank into my skin and looked natural, like my own skin! It felt amazing! I would have liked a little bit more red in it, but hats off to Mr. Jacobs for creating a line that caters to women with medium to deeper skintones. Of course I have not tested this for wear and durability, but don’t be afraid to check it out. The price tag is rather hefty (US$48 for 1 fl. oz.), but look at it if you can. Since it is a gel formula, it will probably work well on oily skin.
I hope that eventually the colour range is expanded to include some more medium-dark to deep shades, but I think it’s a good start!! I can’t vouch for the rest of the collection, so see it for yourself.
Have you guys picked up anything??
