This Complex mag cover is from last year that I loved!

I recreated it and the featured product is the lipstick! This bright, bold matte orange is by blackUp Cosmetics, a cosmetic line based in Paris, specially made for women colour. Now making its entry into the US with a store in NYC. The shade is RGE34M. I added some bronze cream and pigment shadow on the lid with some falsies!

My hair is in a twistout.

Tanzania Dutch wax head wrap by Fanm Djanm

I have been loving this African headwrap! I bought it recently from a lovely Haitian woman Paola and she is the owner of the company Fanm Djanm. My particular piece is 100% Dutch wax fabric from Tanzania. The edges are finished and it’s a large rectangular piece. Honestly, I don’t remember how I tied it. And I love that it is so bright and colourful and I can keep my makeup at a minimum. Here I had a little black liner on my lower lashline. Mascara top and bottom lashes, a little matte chocolate brown eye shadow in the crease. On the skin, only facial oil. All about that glowy, summer skin!

just some facial oil, minimal eye makeup! Glowy skin!

By the way, Paola will be at the Sugar Hill Market in Harlem this Sunday, August 17. This market is held once a month, in various locations around Harlem and it features a host of talented artisans showing their handmade creations. There’s food, clothing, crockery. So check out their website for more information, Sugar Hill Market.

Also check out Paola’s page as well, Fanm Djanm.

What do you think? I need to find different ways to tie it. Any suggestions?

#WCW: A Janelle Monae-inspired hair AND makeup LOTD!

I love when artists show us their raw talent and they are not hidden behind autotune or fancy costuming. I love it when there is some element of  the artist’s personality, that they are being themselves and that they are not a total creation of a label.

This is why I love Janelle Monae, from her signature pompadour, her black and white tuxedos and her earthy jazz/pop/funk vocals, yeah…you could say I have a girl crush!

I wanted to recreate her signature look, with a little twist!  Allyuh know that I am no hair expert, but I am stepping out of my malaise!

In honour of doing a look based on a musical artist, I am also going to use a few products created by Ardency Inn, a new brand, heavily influenced by music.  Check out my writeup on their launch here.

Here’s what I created!
