Step-by-step beginner's smoky eye tutorial! – a LOTD!

The one makeup look that everyone always wants to know how to do is the smoky eye.  It’s dramatic, sexy and versatile.  I have created a very basic, beginner’s smoky eye using only 3 colour products.  This is a quick, out-the-door look that can be used as a base and built up as needed.

Here’s the look!

A bronzey smoky eye!

The key to the smoky is blending…blend, blend and blend some more.  You want a smooth transition from one colour to another without any harsh lines.

I used minimal products – Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow Waterproof Eye Shadow Pencil in 22E, M.A.C. Feline Eye Pencil and L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes mascara.  That’s basically it!!

LOTD: Jordin Sparks for bebe inspired

So the movie Sparkle debuted in the US a few weeks ago and it stars American Idol winner Jordin Sparks.  I never really watched the show, but I think she has a good voice and lately she has been everywhere with her new svelte, healthy body!  This is also the last movie done by one of the greatest voices of our time, Ms. Whitney Houston! I still in ah lil shock!

Anyway, so I saw this poster where Jordin Sparks appeared in an ad campaign for the clothing store bebe as a promo for Sparkle.

It was glamorous, without being over the top.  It was actually similar to a look that I did on Jannelle here, but with updated technique.  This would be a good Labour Day/Carnival look,  and it’s actually really simple.  A gold glitter.  And I used a new method of applying lashes that I picked up at The Makeup Show from artist Johnny LaVoy!  I even included a foundation (!), which I never wear, but I was intrigued when I purchased  it at the Mehron booth at IMATS NYC earlier this year.

Here’s the look!

Summer travel essentials!

School’s over, and summer hours at work have begun.  You get the itch to take ah l’il vacation.  Here are a few items that I packed in my summer vacation beauty kit!

  • Unii palette with refills –  I got this super cute, hard case palette at the makeup show (gifted) and I really like it to place some of my favourite colours to give me a quick daytime or nighttime dinner look.  This palette can hold lots of refill pans including Make Up For Ever, M.A.C. and Inglot.  Just toss in in your bag and you don’t have to worry about your eyeshadows breaking or having to cart a whole bunch of them!
