The year is going by really fast, and summer in the northern hemisphere is quickly fading.

September is already upon us and there are lots of things that are happening over the next few months. But…here are the events that are taking part in the next week or so that I am excited for.

Pat McGrath Labs Permanent Launch

After years of testing and teasing her fans around the world, Pat McGrath or Mother, as she is affectionately known, will finally be launching a full, permanent makeup collection. No more limited release. She’s been playing with different formulas and packaging, trying to see what people liked and how the products performed. If you don’t know, Pat McGrath is one of the best makeup artists in the world. She has been a permanent fixture backstage at Fashion Week for years and she has be behind the scenes collaborating and advising many makeup brands and products. I am glad to see that she is finally getting the public adoration and appreciation that she deserves. And as a woman of colour with an MBE, this makes it even more amazing! On September 16, the first phase of her line will be released at Pat McGrath Labs and later released on October 3 at sephora.com and select Sephora stores.

I recently did an unboxing and swatch demo of her latest limited release of her MatteTrance lipsticks. I believe that this formula and packaging will be available in her permanent line. Check out the video and the swatches below.

M.A.C x Taraji P. Henson! OMG!

So M.A.C. decided to drop a virtual bomb on us and announced their next upcoming celebrity collaboration!

MAC Taraji

OMG! LOOK AT THAT IMAGE!

I immediately wished that M.A.C. still made their promo postcards that became collector’s items.  As a matter of fact, I want a poster of this. This is so amazing in many ways! First of all, beauty companies usually rely on the 20 somethings to sell makeup. Second of all, this is a black, chocolate woman! Even though M.A.C. has been a trailblazer when it comes to  using diversity in their ad campaigns. Third, this is Taraji aka Cookie Lyon! She is so fabulous that I can’t take it. I am ready for the black girl magic!

This collection will be released in select areas on September 6 online and September 8 in the US and internationally later on in September.  It’s a small collection, but I hope this does well (which I know it is going to as every black girl and Empire fan has been freaking out ever since they announced).  I hope this will encourage the powers that be at M.A.C. to bring out an entire colour collection.

There is a mascara, two Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Taraji Glow and Highlight The Truth, Lipstick in Strip Me Down, Penultimate Eye Liner and the 187 duo fibre brush.

I have not bought anything from a M.A.C. limited edition collection in more than a year, but I have my eyes on the lipstick and one of the Mineralized Skinfinishes Natural.  Please check the M.A.C. website for more information.

Manus x Machina: Nail Art by LFN & Cirque Colors

One of the reasons why I love New York City, especially in the summer, are all the cultural events that is happening in the different boroughs.  There is something out there for everyone, from traditional to quirky to futuristic.  Food events, arts, science, anything! One of the biggest and most prestigious events on the New York City social calendar is the Met Gala, held in early May.  This year’s theme for the Met exhibition is ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’. How fashion designers combine or reconcile ancient hand-making traditions with modern machine-making technology.

Now before I go any further, you MUST see this exhibition!! It has been extended to September 5th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and it is absolutely worth it! It is so well curated and put together. The fashion designs are phenomenal! Some designs are ready to wear and others are quite avant garde! My favourite were the designs from Alexander McQueen.  The exhibit is sectioned into the métiers or specific types of professions/specialties in traditional haute couture design or craftsmanship, from featherwork to lacework to pleating.  Some of the pieces were made by hand, cut, dyed and sown, while others were 3D printed.  Being able to hand craft clothing is an incredible skill, and technology has the ability to take fashion into places that were could have only imagined. You can find out more about the métiers here and here. I don’t want to spoil it for you all, so here are a few of my favourites.

So a few weeks ago, on as part of the Met’s #MetFridays programme, there was a nail art event, held at the Met Store and featured the designs and work by nail artist Lady Fancy Nails and the polishes by Cirque Colors. I just learned that the Met collaborate with Cirque Colors and Olivia Kim to create a limited edition collection of 6 colours inspired by the #ManusxMachina collection. You know I can’t resist finding out about new brands and picked up one of the shades, Moon Dust. Cirque Colors is Big 3 Free and hand mixed in Brooklyn!

Moon Dust – Multi tonal colour hand mixed with real silver flecks!

So two of my friends and I went to the event on a balmy Friday summer evening and I loved it! Lady Fancy Nails is an amazing nail artist and I picked up some tips for nail design, but I was most impressed at her interpretation of the couture fashions using nails as her canvas. She’s really very good and loved the mix of creams and shimmers and she also incorporated other techniques and materials, like gold foil, negative space and different sizes of nail brushes. I loved her Chanel and McQueen designs the best. She has inspired me to get back into nail designs!

So check out her creations, and check out the Met exhibit before it closes.

A few days ago, word dropped that the Bajan bombshell, Rihanna, was collaborating with the Kendo division to bring out an entire makeup collection! A Rihanna makeup collection! Kendo is part of the LVMH Moët Hennesy Louis Vuitton and I can’t wait for this! You KNOW it is going to be person of colour friendly!  Oh!!! Slay RiRi!  Remember when she had a capsule collection with M.A.C. – the Retro Mattes in that one are still one of my favourites of all time! Anyway, we have a while to wait for this as it is not due to come out until the autumn of 2017.  Those teaser pics will be epic!

The Details

From WWD:

The Kendo division of LVMH Moët Hennesy Louis Vuitton has landed a deal with Rihanna, one of the hottest-selling celebrities in the world of licensing, to do a complete makeup collection.

As one veteran cosmetics executive observed, “everything with her is off the charts.”

Estimates of what LVMH may have paid to make the deal run as high as $10 million.

Kendo, which functions as an incubator producing products that end up being retailed by LVMH’s Sephora perfumery chain and other outposts, will launch a Rihanna makeup range, called Fenty Beauty by Rihanna, in the fall of 2017.

While the company provided no other details, David Suliteanu, chief executive officer of Kendo, was in a celebratory mood. “Fenty Beauty by Rihanna is a beauty rocket ship that will appeal to a huge and diverse global audience,” he said. “We are aiming for the stars.”

……

Kendo has given Rihanna the opportunity to play a key role in the development of her brand and the longevity of a long-term relationship.
