LOTD: Diwali Indian inspired makeup look!

Diwali LOTD post graphic

Hey!

I’ve wanted to do an Indian-inspired look for a long time now.  Growing up in Trinidad & Tobago, I was accustomed celebrating customs and religious beliefs of the different ethnic groups.  Trinis would not bat an eyelid at attending Eid events or going over by your neighbor to parang dey house for Christmas.   We have accepted and celebrated each others cultures and food, becoming a very multi-ethnic society.

I bought the November 2010 Vogue India issue with Priyanka Chopra on the cover and fell in love with this look!

As a matter of fact, I fell in love with the entire Sari issue.  Such vivid colours and opulence!!! Something that I don’t usually see reading US magazines.  I occasionally will buy an international magazine for a different kind of inspiration.   In this issue, for  the traditional Hindu ceremony, the bride wore a stunning ruby red and gold sari paired with  smokey red and black eye makeup with deep red lips!! This look will also be great for a Divali celebration, lighting deyas and eating your favourite mithai.

Here’s my version.

Make Up For Ever does HD…Not Retouched!!!

This week, Make Up For Ever launched its HD NOT RETOUCHED campaign.  Everyone knows (or should know) that these days ads, photos and videos are retouched.  You may be surprised at how much is done, lashes drawn in, fine lines and wrinkles erased, dimples eradicated, pretty much the subject is made perfect.  So folks should not even stress out trying to look like a model in a magazine, ‘cuz a lot of it is not real.  By highlighting their HD line, they hope to show that anyone could get makeup with a flawless finish.

BECCA brings beautiful skin!

Hey!

Today I’m going to review the Aussie cosmetics line BECCA.  I was first introduced to this line years ago when they were sold at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC.  What initially attracted me to this line, was the array of foundation colours! I literally did a double take, an Australian line, with a pretty extensive colour range? Whaaaaaat!

Then they kinda disappeared.  They were only available online.  Then sometime last year, I discovered that they reappeared at some of the rebranded Duane Reade pharmacies.

So here is a little background on the brand.  According to the website:

“The whole philosophy of BECCA is about creating a natural, flawless look. It’s really about skin looking amazing – everything else is secondary.”
– Rebecca Morrice Williams, Founder

So they’re really into flawless skin for people of ALL races, ethnicities, ages and they really focus on perfecting the skin.  Their 3-step system consists of Preparing, Perfecting and Setting.  Their products contain antioxidants vitamins, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, also advanced pigment technology (for a weightless, natural finish) and broad spectrum SPF.  They have this beachy, barely-there, easy-going vibe that I like.

I have tested out 4 products.
