So you want to wear makeup: Cheeks

Hey guys!!!!

Another installment of my series.  Today’s focus is on the cheeks.

I must admit that this is an area that I have only recently gotten into.  I’m all about the eyes but I have come to realize that the right cheek colour and application could take a look to another level!!!

Again, there are many different formulations for cheek colours and these include:

  • Powder (the most popular)
  • Gel
  • Creams (my new favourite!)
  • Liquids
  • Mousses

So there is something there for everyone, you just need to find something that suits you.

There are a few things to take into consideration when selecting your cheek colour and formula:

So you want to wear makeup!……Eyes

So yeah…..I’ve been slackin’ off on my basics beauty series, ‘So you want to wear makeup….’.  But I’m back!!!!

This is help you with the basics of makeup application, a 5-minute-out-the-door face, a simple work look.  Find my other articles on the basics here:

So eyes are my favourite part of my face to make up.  There are so many possibilities, colour combinations, textures etc.  But for those that are beginners, or those who don’t have a lot of time, just a few simple steps could give you a polished look.

The Brows

Before I get into eyes, I have to speak of the eyebrows.  Your eyebrows are absolutely important as they frame the eyes and the face.  It’s one of the first places that people see.  Many people have their brows shaped via threading, waxing or tweezing but really and truly, combing your eyebrows will make them look groomed.  This is where a spoolie or eyebrow comb comes in handy.  I think the metal brow combs are the way to go! The plastic ones break every 5 mins!  Also get a shape that suits the way the hair grows, eye shape etc.  Overly plucked brows are a no-no!

LOTD: A bronzey, coral look!!

Hey!!

So in celebration of the amazing warm weather we’ve been having, I decided to make use of one of my favourite colours of the season, coral.  Honestly, I don’t know why it took me so long to discover this colour.  I think it had something to do with a wedding that I was in as a child, and had to wear the MOST hideous peach bridesmaid dress ever…..and the makeup was just wrong…..sigh….

So I was browsing the M.A.C. website and was looking at the face charts that they published for the collection.

I was instantly drawn to this stunning coral look, with a shot of turquoise along the waterline.  I loved it!  Coincidentally, oranges and blues are complementary and look amazing together in the right proportion.  So the coral makes the turquoise liner pop even more!!!!  A great summer look!!!!

I may repeat this look soon, so I’ll try to take better pics!

Enjoy! 🙂

I think that there is something for everyone.  The colours are very wearable and not too warm or too cool.  The limited edition packaging is really beautiful with at least 4 different colours/designs.  Shadows came in bright avocado green cases with a cream seashell on the cover, the blushes and the highlight powder came in deep olive green casing, the bronzers, lipsticks and lipglosses came in deep orange cases with cream starfish and the eye  and lip pencils were white with a coral design.  While there are quite a few permanent and repromoted items, there were some stand out items:

LOTD: A shot of blue

Hey guys!

I wore this look this weekend.  Simple bronze, with a winged out, smudged blue liner. Also added a midtone coral blush from Bobbi Brown.

So, I have a confession to make, in general I don’t like Bobbi Brown at all, but her Cabana Corals collection is the first one EVER that I have wanted to try, especially that Nectar Shimmer Brick!!!!!! I used her Pot Rouge and its great for people with dry skin, or who do not wear foundation. Also oranges and blues work really well together, so I paired a darker blue with a paler coral cheek colour.

I also cut just above the crease (one of the things I learned at TMS), which opens up the eye even more.

Here’s what I used:

  • TFSI
  • M.A.C. Pigment in Copperized (a greenish bronzey colour), all over the eyelid and crease
  • M.A.C Pigment in Museum Bronze (dark bronze), outer part of eye just above the crease, on the brow bone
  • M.A.C. Greasepaint stick in Below Ground (bronze), to define the shape of eye just above the crease
  • M.A.C. eye liner in Coffee (chocolate brown) to darken the GPS
  • M.A.C. eyeshadow in Cork, to blend out the brow bone and the lower inner 1/3 of lid
  • M.A.C. Pigment in Bell Bottom Blue (sea blue), to the outer 2/3 of lower lid
  • M.A.C. Kohl Power eyeliner in Feline
  • Lancome Hypnose Drama in Excessive Black
  • Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Calypso Coral
  • EOS lip balm

Enjoy!!!
