Recent nail polish haul: OCC & Zoya

Good day!

I have taken advantage of some recent sales and collected a few more nail polishes to add to my arsenal.  I got some stuff from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and Zoya.  Both are vegan lines, by the way.

Extravaganza by OCC

Swatch, Extravaganza

Extravaganza is part of OCC’s Fall 2011 collection, Pretty Boy.  I think for autumn, it is an unusual colour as it reminds me of summer, but it is warm somewhere in the world, isn’t it? LOL! Extravaganza is a pinkish-coral with  green-gold duochrome microshimmer.  This was one of the stand out colours from this collection, I love it.  It is bright but not neon and I think that it works well for women with darker skin as well as ladies with lighter complexion.  Finally I think that this colour is pretty neutral, not to warm or too cool.  I needed at least 2 coats for this one.  The formula is on the thinner side and not too streaky.

Here is some more information on the new Flagship:

Walking into the flagship store you will see an array of makeup in bold and dramatic colours with pops of neon and saturated pastels, radiating from every corner. Professional Makeup Artists are standing by to offer private consultations, makeup applications, and will even show you how to perfect airbrush makeup. Customers will not want to miss OCC’s Mixing Bar where they can custom create their perfect shade, or recreate their favorite colour. Gone are the days anyone has to live without their favorite discontinued beauty product!  With over 36 shades of Lip Tars, highly pigmented loose eyeshadows, and an array of vibrant nail polishes, OCC’s flagship store is sure to become the next beauty haven for any makeup artist or beauty buff.

I attended the Grand Opening last week and we were also introduced to the new Fall 2011 collection, Pretty Boy, which by the way is amazing! I especially love the nail lacquers!!  Actually very girly but not too sweet!

Which red do I wear? Red lip swatches for women of colour

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

One of the hardest things to do is to find the perfect red.  A lot of women of colour avoid the most coveted lip colour of all time.  Red is the colour of the season and sultry glamour is back!  Various textures and finishes, it doesn’t matter.  Red is it!!! Truth be told, I had to make a conscious decision to start buying reds.  It is really a matter of trial and error to find reds that work with your skintone and personality and the engineer in me loves this!!!

So here are some the reds that I have collected recently.  And for the record, I don’t know where I have been but M.A.C.’s Ruby Woo bessssssss!!!!! I don’t know what they sprinkle on that lipstick, and it’s a matte too!! It is a gorgeous, stunning true red and the finish/texture of the lipstick also makes it unique!  No one looks bad in this one.  I think this is as close to a sure bet as you can get!  If you would like more detailed swatches/info on a particular colour, let me know.  I will be doing a review on the NARS items.  Check out my review on the NYX Lip Cremes here.  I’m NW45 with red undertones but my arm is a little lighter.

Swatches (L to R): Succubus, Strutter, Chaos, Amsterdam, Monte Carlo, Fiery, Russian Red, Ruby Woo, Moulin Rouge, Vesuvio, Dragon Girl

The Makeup Show NYC 2011: The Big Show!!

[twitter-follow screen_name=’NoireTropicalB’]

Finally my last post on The Makeup Show! I’ve waited for this all year and it did not disappoint! The biggest show ever, now occupied 2 floors of the Metropolitan Pavilion! I was a little overwhelmed.  More vendors than before and the main theme of the event centred around education of the artist on new techniques, product lines, marketing yourself etc.  One of the best things were the PRO Pods, which allowed experts to connect one-on-one artists to exchange ideas.

I spent the day attending as many workshops that I could and I also did a little bit of shopping (of course!!!).  Met some new people, caught up with some old friends and had an amazing time!!!

Enough talk! Here are the pictures!!! And again, if we took pictures together, tag me or let me know!!!

Enjoy!

NARS Cosmetics made their TMS debut this year and it was one of the first booths that I visited.
