The Makeup Show 2011: New York Groove Party

So right after the Blogger Preview, I attended the New York Groove Party.  Some of the top celebrity makeup artists were asked to create a look that represented New York for them.  I thought that it was amazing that the bloggers were given the opportunity to have a close-up view of these amazing artists at work and to chat with them, in such a relaxed atmosphere!  The artistry was phenomenal and the night was lots of fun!! I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves.  Another shout out to some more of the people that I met – bloggers Milly from Beauty Logic (hey gyul, you’ve met yet another Trini in New York!), and Lianne from The Makeup Girl, makeup artist Stephanie Flor, and the amazing Ms. Crystal Wright.  If you are a makeup artist or stylist and don’t know who she is, you should.

Off to the photos!!!

Introducing OCC Tint

Hey!

Last Friday I had the privilegde of attending the launch of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ new line of tinted moisturizers called OCC Tint.  This event took place at the Wonderland Beauty Parlour in the Meatpacking District.  What a great way to start off the weekend, playing with makeup!

OCC continues to expand its OCC Skin product line (they introduced a line of vegan brushes this year) and this time they have focused on lightweight makeup suitable for today’s hi-definition standards.

According to OCC:

OCC Tint, our hand-applied tinted moisturizer boasts an unparalleled amount of adjustable coverage, available in a wide range of ultra-moisturizing shades that look as great in person as they do in close-up on HDTV and in a hi-res digital photograph. This alternative to airbrush application is already a Make-Up Artists’ favorite, recently field-tested by the Artists at OCC during New York and Los Angeles Fashion Week.

The Makeup Show!!!

I’m sooooo excited!!! I attended last year for the first time in NYC and wrote about it here and here.  I met a lot of wonderful people, both bloggers and makeup artists, attended a few of the seminars and thoroughly enjoyed myself visiting all the booths of makeup companies, learning about new brands and picking items from my list.

This 5th year of THS promises to be the biggest and best with dozens of internationally renowned makeup artists and makeup exhibitors.  If you are a makeup artist, you must attend!!  THS will be hosted in NYC on May 15th and 16th.

Here is a list of a few of the artists that are going to be attending:

  • Pati Dubroff
  • Billy B.
  • Sam Fine
  • Kevin James Bennett
  • James Vincent
  • Dany Sanz
  • Danessa Myricks
  • Michael DeVellis
  • Orlando Santiago
  • Johnny Lavoy

Vogue Italia, Round II

Hey guys!

So in 2008, Vogue Italia turned the fashion world upside down (at least for a few months), when they brought out “The Black Issue”.  An all-black issue, cover to cover, featuring just about anyone who was hot or legendary at that time.  The buzz was so great that the magazine sold out around the world in days!  This is for a magazine printed in Italian! And it was in such demand that Vogue reprinted tens of thousands of copies in the U.S., U.K. and Italy.  That had never been done before!  I was certainly one of those that scooped up a copy.  Of course, the chatter of ‘could black models on covers sell?‘ was raised to a crescendo.   We won’t know for sure as still, in 2011, women of colour in major magazine are still very few and far between.

Anyway, they’ve come back in 2011 with the all-black photo spread ‘The BlackAllure’.  Pretty much the who’s who of the black modeling world.
