Look out for: GINGER+LIZ colour collection

Hey guys!!!

So I attended some of the festivities during Fashion’s Night Out in NYC.  Could I just say that FNO was just straight insanity!

FNO - Insane!!!

I don’t every remember every seeing that many people on Manhattan Island ever!!! People were just out and about, having a ball! SoHo was unbelievable…People like peas! 🙂

One place that I visited was Henri Bendel.  Once inside, I discovered that the GINGER+LIZ counter was offering free polish changes!!! Claro que si, I could not resist!!!!

GINGER+LIZ is a fresh, young, hip , organic nail polish collection and minority-owned business, founded by S. Liz Pickett and H. Ginger Johnson.  It’s luxury on a budget and there is something for everyone.  Personality in a bottle.  So whether you like something bold, chic, sophisticated or laid back, and still grown, G+L’s line totally caters for you.  They are also vegan-friendly and toxin-free (which is becoming more normal nowadays).  They are immensely popular with magazine editors, celebrities and regular folks, and I could absolutely see why!

It's all in the eyes…..

It’s no secret that I love eye makeup.  So many colours, combinations and possibilities!

I love using eyeliner.  When paired with mascara, you have an instant look that works for all occasions.  I have used all types of liner – pencil, gel, liquid, cake and powder, although right now my pencil/gel combination rules.

For their late summer/early fall collection, Fabulous Felines, M.A.C. introduced a new product called SuperSlick Liquid Eye Liner in a stunning 9 colours.  These are touted as being long-lasting, super shiny, and water resistant.

As per the M.A.C. website:

A liquid liner so slick it almost describes itself. Water-based, water resistant, quick and precise to apply. Dries in 15 seconds to provide a sleek, longwearing, wet-look, no-smudge line. The superior no-fuss, no-wobble application lies in the “magic tip” of the easy-to-control dip-stick applicator.

The Packaging

Years ago, M.A.C. sold a liquid liner that came with a felt-tip, short wand applicator, with a thinner consistancy liquid. I think these were discontinued.  The updated liquid liner comes in a long, sleek, pencil thin barrel container with a longer felt- tipped brush and wand applicator.

The container reflects the colour of the liquid inside.  The wand screws in and out of the container containing the liquid.  I prefer this longer handle as I think its easier to control.  The applicator comes to a fine point and allows you to get really close to the base of the lashes for the thinnest line.  You could also use the wand on its side for a thicker line.

I really like the packaging, I think it’s sleek.

My Zoya haul!

Hey!!

I recently took advantage of the Zoya Polish Exchange program where you could turn in your old, icky polishes and get brand new Zoya polishes for half price!!  This is how I first discovered the line last year and I am forever hooked!!

So I picked 10 polishes – some from their most recent lines and a few classics.

Here’s what i picked out:

Richelle

Richelle – This came out last summer ’09 I think and its a molten bronzey gold, with gold microshimmer.  A classic summer colour.  On me it looks like shimmery neutral, not too dark and not glittery.  Smooth formula.  I used 2 coats, but 3 is needed for total coverage and no visible nail line. This is a safe colour for brown (tan, black, latin, desi, arabic) girls.

Trixie

Trixie– I heard a lot about his colour, as it’s very popular!! It’s a bold, futuristic, shiny foiled white silver.  The shimmer is fine and it has a minx-like foil finish.  I love this!!! It’s kinda like summer whites with an edge!! This would look a-mazing on dark skin as the contrast would make the colour pop!! I expect to see a colour like this in Vogue or SHE Caribbean magazine.  So glad I got this one!

Calypso

Calypso – a midtone, peachy, coraly colour with microshimmer.  Very pretty, good on medium to dark skintones.  Also good for those afraid of bright colours.  This one is pigmented but a soft colour.  As a Trinbagonian, I could not resist this colour, it will work well on a trip to Maracas!

Lazy Day l/s

I think that there is something for everyone.  The colours are very wearable and not too warm or too cool.  The limited edition packaging is really beautiful with at least 4 different colours/designs.  Shadows came in bright avocado green cases with a cream seashell on the cover, the blushes and the highlight powder came in deep olive green casing, the bronzers, lipsticks and lipglosses came in deep orange cases with cream starfish and the eye  and lip pencils were white with a coral design.  While there are quite a few permanent and repromoted items, there were some stand out items:
