M.A.C.'s Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief Colour Collection

Here is the second part of M.A.C.’s holiday collection.  Again, not getting anything from here.  Especially not the MES.  I usually love the MES, but sometimes their textures can be a little inconsistent.  The Style Black MES were so amazing, that these are just…meh.  The crescent side has a very chunky texture, so it gives me a good reason to pass.  There are no must-have, standout products in this collection.  Info courtesy Specktra.net

Look of the Day: Bright Sea Blue

Hey!

IMG_2679 text

Here’s my most recent look.  I used a very popular M.A.C. mineralized eyeshadow in Sea and Sky. Sea and Sky came out I think last year as one of the summer collections.  It’s a duo with a light blue marbled side (Sky) and a deep, bright blue.  I also used a popular technique that intensifies eyeshadows called foiling.

Foiling makes an eyeshadow look like liquid metal…or like the shiny, high gloss surface of foil paper. Not all shadows can be foiled.  For one, you generally only use shadows that can be used wet, loose shadows like M.A.C. Pigments and baked, mineralized shadows like M.A.C. mineralized eyeshadow and Urban Decay Baked shadows.  Do not use regular pressed shadows unless you are specifically told that its ok. Wetting these shadows can destroy them.

Secondly to get that shiny look, you need to use shadows that have shimmer or glitter in them. Can’t really use a matte colour to create shine (that totally defeats the point mattes!!!)

Lastly you need to use some kind of fluid to liquify the shadow, usually water-based, but whatever  works for you.  Two of the most popular media are M.A.C.’s Fix+ and water-based Mixing Medium.  Some people make their own using a mix of water and glycerin.  I use Mixing Medium, but everyone talks about Fix+.  I’m going to have to get it!!!

Enough chat!!!!! On to the look!

Update: Swatches of recent M.A.C. haul!

So I am keeping a limit on what I get at M.A.C. I am just trying to stick to the items that are standout, different, new etc.

Style Black, Cinderfella & Blackfire

Style Black, Cinderfella & Blackfire

As mentioned before, I think that the Style Black collection is quite wearable and sultry!!! I got only 2 items, Cinderfella MES and Blackfire Glimmerglass. Surprisingly I don’t own a lot of grey colours so I snatched this one up.  This is going to make a sick smoky eye, and the shimmer is not too large so it does not look gaudy.  I had to get one of the Glimmerglasses and Blackfire was my pick.  It is basically Beauty Marked in lipgloss form.  The formula is similar to the Dazzleglasses, so its a black, sheer, shiny lipgloss with dark burgundy shimmer suspended in it.  I did not get the Greasestick as yet because it is supposed to reappear with the DSquared2 collection which is rumoured to come out on Sept 28.  September 28 is the date for the DSquared Fashion Show in Milan and they wanted both collections to coincide. I would suggest calling your local M.A.C. counter to check.  None of the other items were must haves for me. Check out this cool vid with two different looks from the Style Black collection courtesy MUA Nadine Luke and M.A.C.
