My favourite photos from The Makeup Show NYC 2017

Hey!

Today’s post is picture heavy! This is my annual visual recap of The Makeup Show NYC. Once again, an amazing event, with a slightly different mix of brands this year. I was able to discover some ones and attend classes from some artists that I have never seen live before. I also got a sneak peek into some new products that are coming out soon and I will be bringing it here on the blog!

Special shoutout to all the people that I met, all the artists, owners and organisers of this event. I continue to be inspired by beauty and innovation!

“Whey de lime” Fridays: The Makeup Show NYC 2017 Preview

Ahhhhhhhh! Apart from Christmas, one of my favourite times of year is early May for The Makeup Show NYC.

the-makeup-show-nyc

I have written about it lots of times before. It is the largest makeup artist trade show in the US and many brands take the time to launch new products. But the thing that I am always most excited for are the educational classes. From learning about how to airbrush makeup to tackling social issues that are prevalent in the artistry industry. It is a great opportunity to learn from the absolute, very best artists, who have spent years honing their craft and ‘paying dues’.  There are over 75 brands being represented and some of my faves are Make Up For Ever, Temptu, Blackup Cosmetics.  It’s also a great place to check out smaller companies changing the beauty game such as Juvia’s Place, The Lip Bar, Danessa Myricks Beauty and Smith Cosmetics.

So that is pretty much the only thing that I am going to pay attention to this weekend. I need to plan out all the classes that I want to take…….and the brands that I *may* want to check out…

How to: Easy Glossy Eyes, Monochromatic Look on Dark Skin

I think we are finally moving away from the ultra matte trend and we are stepping into softer, more luminescent looks. From magazines to the runways, on the cheekbones, the lids and even on the cupid’s bow, we are seeing the emphasis on sheen on these areas. This is what I love about makeup. Experimenting with colour and different textures. And you can change your mind whenever you want! So that’s what this look is going to be: glossy eyes!

This is one of the looks that inspired me.

I am also adding another trend, the monochromatic look. Typically I see it with lighter colours, but I wanted to show you that you can achieve this with pretty much any colour and in this look, I used a burgundy shade. This look will work on any skintone and you can wear this pretty much all year-round.

So…..the glossiness…..There are many products that can use to achieve this effect. The most popular option is using a lip gloss. I actually chose to use a blend of natural oils. There some companies coming out now with ‘eye gels’ or ‘eye glosses’, like NYX and M.A.C., specially made for this look. Regardless of what you use, keep in mind that any one of products will eventually break down the eye shadows on the lid and will lead to creasing.

Anyway, nuff talk. Here’s the look!

How to get a beautiful ‘No-makeup’ Look on Dark Skin

No-makeup makeup on dark skin

Hey!

There is a lot a makeup out there. Just browsing through Pinterest or IG, and you will see all kinds of amazing (and not so great) makeup looks and tutorials. But sometimes, you don’t want all of that. You may have 5 minutes in the morning or you are just going to run errands. Or you are not in the mood for a cut-crease, lashes and contouring. So….this is my ‘no-makeup’ makeup look.

This look is a great, everyday, best version of you look. It is actually what I wear to work. Pick your favourite neutral shades and just apply foundation or concealer as needed. This is a simple, fuss-free look. Don’t think too much about it. And this a really good starting point if you decide to amp up the look a little bit with a brighter lip or a more intense eye.

Here’s my tutorial and all of the products that I used are listed below.

BIG NEWS: M.A.C. is coming to Ulta Stores

mac-coming-ulta-beauty

In what could be considered major beauty news, the iconic makeup brand M.A.C. Cosmetics is heading to Ulta stores.

From WWD on M.A.C.:

By the end of the year, MAC is expected to be in more than 100 Ulta stores, according to Karen Buglisi Weiler, MAC global brand president. “By mid-June we should have the first one opened,” she said.

At the heart of MAC’s assortment in Ulta will be the brand’s landmark Studio Fix Fluid and Powder foundation along with Studio Waterweight, Prolongwear Nourishing Waterproof foundation and Next to Nothing, which will be launched in April. The Studio Fix array of 53 shades has been edited for Ulta. The other pillar is lip color, led by the $17 lipstick, which is usually marketed in up to 140 shades, followed by the $16 Lipglass and $21 Liptensity, a new, high-pigment coloring that was launched in September. Retromatte, a liquid product, rounds out the lip assortment.

M.A.C will first appear online for purchase at ulta.com on May 7, 2017 and in select Ulta stores from June.
