Bridal Makeup: Urban Bride

Hi guys!

So bridal season is just around the corner and Urban Decay has come out with a survival kit for that big day called the Urban Bride kit.

Urban Bride

Filled with essentials for keeping a bride’s makeup looking fresh throughout the tears, the pictures, the weather, anything! Also great for bridesmaids and other members of the bridal party.  Wrapped in beautiful hand-drawn packaging, this would also make a great gift!

The kit contains:

  • Razor Sharp Ultra-Definition Finishing Powder – (3.75 g mini) diffuses lines for a flawless airbrushed look, and the translucent shade suits all skin tones. The photographer and the DJ can flash their brightest lights her way because she’ll still look AMAZING.
  • Eyeshadow Primer Potion – (Full Size) ensures her eyeshadow stays vibrant, true and CREASE-FREE throughout the ceremony, pictures, dancing and well-after her garter comes off.
  • Supercurl Curling Mascara – boosts, separates and conditions lashes, while its super sculpting polymers hold the curl. Even if she throws a tirade at some point, no one will be able to hate her with those lashes.
  • Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Midnight Cowboy – (Travel Size 3.6 ml) gives her all the shine she wants without any tacky stickiness. This soft, cushiony-textured gloss endures, and the sheer nude sparkle of Midnight Cowboy can be worn alone or over any shade of lipstick.
  • All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray – (15 ml spray bottle; perfect for her purse!) is a weightless mist that sets makeup for 16 hours. It utilizes temperature control technology to prevent makeup from melting off when it’s hot and humid outside or from becoming dehydrated when it’s cold and dry.
  • Marshmallow Sparkling Lickable Body Powder – (Travel Size 10g) a glistening, edible body powder to highlight her shoulders and décolletage beautifully, as well as treat her other half to a little dessert too!

Earth Day beauties!

Hey!

So last Friday was Earth Day, and slowly but surely, lots of cosmetic companies, big and small, have been embracing more natural and organic formulations.  So for you earth-conscious beauties out there, here are a few brands to look out for:

HAIR

  • Oyin Handmade – probably my favourite, natural haircare line for women with curly, kinky or coily hair.  I cannot live without the Burnt Sugar Pomade.  Really.  The Juices are also really good too! Still have to try their new Hair Dew.
  • Karen’s Body Beautiful – Another great line based out of my old neighbourhood of Fort Greene Brooklyn.  The Sweet Ambrosia is the go-to product.  But I am really excited for all the new products that will be coming out this year.
  • Qhemet Biologics – I think that their Amla and Olive Heavy Cream is amazing! It’s also their top seller.
  • Kinky Curly –  A very popular brand with products like Knot Today (my staple leave-in conditioner) and the Curling Custard (which I have YET to try, but summer is coming up so….).
  • Anita Grant – love from across the pond!!! And now they have a U.S. distributor – Hairrogant.  And right now they actually have a sale on the top 5 selling AG products!  I would recommend the babassu shampoo bars and the Rhassoul Deep Condish.
  • Aubrey Organics– available at Whole Foods and other retailers, I use their GPB conditioner as a protein conditioner and the Honeysuckle Rose conditioner as a deep moisturizer.
  • SheaMoisture – Love their Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo and their body butters! Available at Target and Walgreens.

Illamasqua inspired Valentine's Day look!

Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I decided to try the look from the Illamasqua Throb collection.  I mentioned it here.

Of course you know that I omitted the white pancake makeup and made it more wearable.  Application was soft.  Cute.  Soft cut crease.  Pink cheeks.  Here it is:

LOTD: MUFE Smoky Rock inspired!

Two LOTDs in one week?? Wheeeeeey!!

Browsing the MUFE boutique and saw this promo image for their Rock For Ever collection.

Rock For Ever by Make Up For Ever

Close up

Hot, right??? I had to recreate this look.  It’s certainly not an everyday look but if you are wearing a black or silver Carnival costume, this would be a stunning look! Add some glitter on the lid or rhinestones and it would be all over!

The Rock For Ever collection was released late last year and is a series of trial-sized mini sets of Aqua pencils, Star Powders, mascara etc. housed in a studded container. Cute. Especially the Best of MUFE collection set.

This features a smoky eye, cut crease and winged liner, and I was up for the challenge!!!

Here is what I came up with…..

LOTD: Glittery, bronzey, Arabic-inspired look!!

Hey!!!

This is my first look of the day for 2011 and it’s a stunning one!!

Last week, my Middle Eastern dance instructor, Jannelle,  was invited to perform at the surprise 40th birthday party for Mary J. Blige!!!!!!!!!

I was trilled and privileged at the opportunity to do her makeup at the event! I immediately started thinking about the look.  An event like that, with all the movers and shakers in the music industry, requires more than just a smoky eye.  You have to bring it!!!

The theme of the event was Arabic-inspired and I wanted more than just kohl-lined, winged liner.  I drew inspiration from Eman and Scandalous Beauty and decided on a glittery look.  Jannelle also wore a gold, sparkly costume and I wanted something to match.  This is a great look for performance especially in situations where there is not a lot of bright lighting so that you are drawn to the dancers eyes.  Could also be used for a Carnival look.  I also paired it with a red lip and a hit of shimmer. Btw, I have found an amazing red that everyone can wear – Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense lipstick in Moulin Rouge (#43)! Separate post on that coming soon!  Using glitters was stepping out of my zone, but makeup is all about not being afraid to try something new.  One note: If you are going to use glitters, especially on the eyes, make sure it is cosmetic-grade, which is milled fine enough and won’t scratch your eyes.

Anyway, here is the final look!
